Welcome to Earth Connection 2008
Welcome to smart, realistic survival skills - primitive
skills with a sense of tradition - and our ancestor's drive for practical self
sufficiency. Earth Connection is a school of primitive skills, wilderness
survival and self sufficiency offering regularly scheduled weekend courses and
also private weekday courses, for persons 18 and older. All courses are taught by Tim MacWelch and/or Rick "Hue" Hueston,
along with the help of Jamey Hueston and Jennifer MacWelch. We are located
in Northern Virginia, and offer outdoor classes throughout the year. 2008
is our twelfth year of continuous operation. Our
hands-on classes are always kept small in size to ensure that each student gets
all of the attention and skills coaching that they deserve.
Our specialties are classes in Friction
Fire Making and Wild Edible Plants. And we also teach a variety of other
subjects through our courses on Tracks and Sign, Basketry,
Primitive Tool Making, Hide Tanning, Wilderness Survival, Organic Gardening
and many more!

Our mission is to provide you
with high quality class content; reasonable and realistic survival strategies;
and a safe, enjoyable learning experience. "Don't survive harder...
Survive Smarter!" Tim MacWelch
Earth Connection's prices are some of
the best around, and so are the classes. We don't believe in big
price tags for primitive skills, that's just not natural! Earth Connection
classes are a refreshing experience in reality, in a country full of Hollywood
shock value survival and mystical, cultish nonsense. Check out Our Philosophy.
You
can now CHECK FOR LAST MINUTE STUDENT
CANCELLATIONS
in our classes, which would provide you with a
last minute space in that class. Call or email to check for openings.

One more reason "The
class isn't over when you go home!" Check out our blog designed by Hue. This is a great place to see
what happened in our recent classes and learn more about our school.
It is also a forum for continued communication with our students.

Earth
Connection cares
about
the Homeless
Earth connection has collected and
will continue to collect Sleeping
Bags, Socks and Coats for our local Homeless. We will continue until the end of March.
Please make a choice to
help us as we collect for the
Homeless. This is our own private initiative, to make a difference in
our local community. The local shelters that we will be donating the
sleeping bags to have requested new 0 degree bags, or used & washed bags.
We also
recommend that the bags be synthetic fill, as these will still stay warm
even if they get wet (unlike down). But any bags will help. Childrens bags are needed, too. For more info, please email
tim@earth-connection.com
You can help in two ways
-
Drop off a
sleeping bag, socks or a coat at an Earth Connection class
in January, February or March
-
Mail in a bag, socks or coat to
Earth Connection PO Box 32
Somerville, VA 22739

Tim and Hue were on National Geographic
Tim and Hue received a rare privilege last year. In late 2006 we were involved in the filming of two programs for National
Geographic's new show Wild Chronicles hosted by
Boyd Matson. In the first episode we showed Boyd how to use the Bow Drill,
and in the second we shared some shelter building techniques. Both aired spring 2007, but check your local PBS listings for re-runs on episodes #215
and #222. Thank you to Boyd, Kevin, Jason, Buddy, Eduardo and all
of the other great
people that we met.

Big events for the national primitive
skills community!
Why go to Earth Connection courses?
Earth Connection's courses provide the following valuable benefits
to our students.
- Earth Connection is a small, streamlined business with the
ability to provide priceless, lifesaving skills at prices well below
our competition. We try harder and we pour more into
our classes that the "Big Schools".
- The Private Classes can be scheduled Monday thru
Friday - year round, for the same price as regular classes.
- Our curriculum is compartmentalized, to allow you to select and combine the subjects that suit
your needs and interests. Add on a Private Class before or
after a regularly scheduled class for a longer training period.
- Even if our students have received extensive survival training,
our innovative survival techniques will provide them
with additional new survival strategies. These new skills will
give our students even more tactics to survive.
- All of our courses provide students with a written manual on the
skills covered in that course, so that everyone has consistent
information to study during the course and to review afterward.
- Earth Connection's curriculum is designed to pack many new
skills and skill practice time into every class.
We don't believe in scamming our students with useless filler.
There's no marching around or busywork on our classes. If you
want to go hiking to fill up a day, you can do that yourself for
free. It won't happen on our clock. We pack into 2 or 3
days the amount that other guys stretch out over a week. So
you cover the same ( or probably much more ) information at a
fraction of their cost!
- "The
class isn't over when you go home!" We care about our students
and their progress. The door is always open for further study,
for asking questions and to help you join the local and global
Primitive Skills community.
