Information about Earth Connection |
EARTH CONNECTION'S PHILOSOPHY We feel that understanding our
ties to the earth and the lifestyles of our ancestors will positively affect our future.
Our school teaches historically based skills in a way that makes them relevant to modern
people, whether students are with us to learn skills that will keep them safe in the
wilderness or are learning for their own personal enrichment. We teach how to be more
comfortable in the wilderness and understand the wonders, resources and history around us.
Our survival skills do not exploit or destroy nature. We teach how to garden and look
after the landscape, to love it and to preserve it for future generations. We know that we
do not inherit the earth from our fathers, but we borrow it from our children. It is our
sacred duty then, to preserve for future generations, the earth and the skills of the
peoples close to the earth. Our commitment to learning, mastering, and passing on ancient skills defines Earth Connection. The courses are designed to offer hands-on training and are limited in size to five or less participants per instructor to provide personalized instruction and plenty of individual attention. Earth Connections courses are held at a primitive campsite in a woodland setting near Warrenton, Virginia. Our woodland campsite has a primitive kitchen, with a fire pit and two stone ovens;and a variety of shelters in and around camp. Upon enrollment, a map and list of gear will be sent to you along with any other relevant information about the course. Our one day courses typically run from 9:00am to 5:00pm and our longer courses run from 8:00am to about 8:00pm. Participants will need to provide their own lunches for our one day courses, with the exception of the wild edible plant courses. Three meals a day and snacks will be provided by us for all other courses. Let us know if you are a vegetarian or have any special dietary needs. Our courses in the areas of
wilderness survival and primitive technology are geared toward adult participants, 18 and
older, SORRY BUT NO EXCEPTIONS. THE INSTRUCTOR Tim MacWelch is the founder
and head instructor of Earth Connection School of Wilderness Survival and Ancient Skills.
He has been a student of primitive skills for over a decade, studying wilderness survival
and primitive technologies with most of the top schools and instructors in the east. He
has also been a teaching assistant and guest instructor for many of his teachers. Tim has
independantly studied Anthropology for the past five years, is currently studying Cultural
Anthropology at a local college and has independantly studied Botany for the past four
years. Tim has been professionally teaching wilderness survival and primitive technology
since he founded Earth Connection in spring of 1997, and working with youth through his
own Youth Workshops to schools, church groups, the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and other youth
groups since 1995. The Bulletin Board is here to

This year's workshops will be Shelter Building, Primitive Agriculture, Family Wilderness Skills and Nut Harvest. These are all ages workshops for our students and their immediate families only. This is to thank our students for their support of Earth Connection. Workshop sizes will be limited, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent who is an Earth Connection student. If you are bringing anyone under 18, please contact us for a special registration form and waiver. Our next Workshop will be Family Wilderness Skills on August 12th. This workshop has been developed to give kids and parents valuable outdoor skills that will keep them safe in the great outdoors. Some of the topics we intend to cover include: Lost-proofing, survival gear, outdoor games, safe fires and more. Call, write or email if you would like more information about these workshops.
